(Click to go to specific topic)
Google Places
Have a look at the picture below – familiar to you? What you see is a Google Places listing. Google Places is appropriate for LOCAL businesses, attracting LOCAL customers. If Google decides to respond to a search query with a Google Places listing, then it WILL show in the top ½ of page one of Google. There are up to 7 places that can be shown i.e. A – G.
So, if YOU have a Google Places account and Google shows your listing in response to a query, it WILL be very high in Google and certainly higher than the “natural” organic listings for your website!
How does your business get here, on the top of Google page one?! Well, not all search queries will result in showing a Google Places listing but RKJOnline will research which search queries – appropriate to YOUR business – would work for you.
Then the process starts of setting up and completing your Google Places account; then constantly monitoring and tweaking it, so it works well for you. There are many aspects to having a successful Google Places listing – both within the account AND by actions on other parts of the internet that positively affect it - getting your business higher into that Top 7 listing!
RKJOnline have a lot of experience with Google Places and we’d love to help your business prosper with it. It’s a process that should be in place alongside conventional SEO, not instead of it and we can explain why.
Internet Marketers make £100’s of pounds monthly just by selling Google Places alone to business owners who do not have the time to set up and monitor the account. At RKJOnline we provide you with a Google Places listing – where it is appropriate – all within our overall SEO offering for a fraction of the cost. Can you really afford your business to be without it?
Social Media
The power of Social Media within SEO is phenomenal but to be honest, many new, small business owners don’t always understand this. All RKJOnline web design ask of you is to let us explain what a benefit Social Media can be to your business and to keep an open mind whilst we do! It does not have to be tacky and can bring enormous benefits – not least from a networking perspective.
Within our overall SEO offering, we will – with your permission – use Social Media in the following ways:
| Action | Benefit |
|---|---|
| Add Social Media bookmark buttons to your website | Your website address and content can be shared all over the Internet, bringing quality back-links to the site and raising your profile on the web |
| Develop an optimised Facebook Business Page for your business, brand, product etc. |
|
| Develop a Twitter account for your business | All of the above! |
| Help you gain your facebook “Vanity url” | A secret weapon! Useful in many ways such as brand protection and Google searches |
| Place facebook and twitter buttons on your website, linking to your page/account | An easy way of helping customers from the website see your social media pages |
| Developing a facebook “like” button or box on your website | This will attract certain types of customer to your website over and above the websites of your competitors – gives new visitors an easy way of becoming your latest “fan” and allows them to see what you are saying to your fans |
| Developing a Twitter box on your website | Your website visitors can instantly see what you have been communicating to your clients and fans |
| Set Up your Linked-In account – personal and company |
|
This all takes time – have YOU got the time for it or have you got a business to run?

Online Directory Submissions
Having your company represented in online directories is no bad thing in its own right; those customers who use the directories may search for companies like yours in their area and find you. There will often be the possibility to have customer reviews on the listings – earning trust.
From an SEO point of view, online directory listings are intrinsically linked to Google Places and Social Media. Completed correctly and thoroughly (and we know how), online directory listings offer citations to Google Places and can seriously influence your place in the Google Places rankings.
Many listings afford the visitor the possibility of sharing the listing through Social Media and also using a “Google Plus 1” button to give a vote of confidence.
In addition many offer badges of accreditation which can help build trust if used on your website.
Furthermore, when a search engine query is used to find a business, it may well be the url of an online directory listing that is shown in the search results; quite blatantly, have enough of them shown in response to a query and you knock your competitors down to page 2 of Google and beyond, especially when combined with the search engines finding your website pages too!!
But yet again, all this takes TIME and it must be done correctly and thoroughly. We have had customers who didn’t believe they needed this element of SEO as they already had plenty of online directory listings. When these were checked by RKJOnline they were incomplete, inconsistent and certainly not good enough to influence their Google Places ranking.
Once we pointed out what we could do to remedy this, the results spoke for themselves – those customers now say they’d pay JUST for that element of our SEO service! But they don’t have to, it’s all included in our very affordable and competitive price!
Independent SEO Audit of your existing website
This is another service we can offer in its own right, if you don’t have a website with RKJOnline Web Design in Cheshire.
If you have an existing site that we take over – and you take our SEO option – we’ll perform an audit as a matter of course.
Just like having an MOT for a car or a health check for your body, an SEO audit is something you need to do every so often to check out what is working well – and what needs help, so as to strengthen your search engine ranking.
- We’ll look at the website content overall and for RELEVANCE, including:
- How well your keywords are working, how are they being used – is it enough?
- If the content is being updated frequently enough
- What the content looks like visually – is it going to attract visitors and keep them on page?
- We’ll look for evidence of SEO copywriting techniques and – if found – we’ll see if they can be improved
- We’ll check for content duplication (whether the search engines see duplication) and correct it, if it exists
- We’ll also check out on page SEO
- Are there discrepancies such as lack of / duplication of meta tags including titles and descriptions
- Structure of your page urls
- Internal navigation/linking
- We’ll ensure your site is registered with
Webmaster Tools so
we can have a look at what is happening on your current site, for example:
- Popularity of search queries
- Speed of site /site performance
- Diagnose crawl errors
- We’ll look for evidence of authority/importance
- We’ll analyse your back-links; how many do you have and from where?
- What’s the quality of the links and the anchor text used?
- Also those of your competitors; are they doing better than you?
- How well is your Social Media working for you in relation to rankings and indexing?
- What pages are currently indexed – any not yet indexed by Google?
We do not limit what we will cover in an SEO Audit because all websites are different but at the end of the audit we’ll issue you with a full report containing recommendations. If your website transfers to RKJOnline we’ll implement the recommendations in full. If your website resides with another webmaster, they will need to make the changes recommended.
Reputation Management
Your brand’s reputation is a hard worked for and treasured thing that matures with time. But reputation can be lost in a blink of the eye. In today’s digital world, “word of mouth” can reach a great many people very quickly through social media, email, blogs etc. And it can get through to the offline world too.
RKJOnline will put in place an alert system which will advise us when something is said specifically about you, your company name or indeed any set of keywords associated with your brand or niche that you would like us to alert for.
If something negative is found online, our first action in minimising its affect would be to re-consider optimised keywords. It could be the case that we would concentrate on optimising your brand or company name, using keywords positively in blogs, press releases, social media etc and thinking carefully about the appropriate anchor text needed. In optimising these, we would push any negative comments down the search engine listing, replacing them with positive comments on your brand.
Tracking down the source of negative press, we would request a rebuttal link, telling our side of the story and our reaction to the comments. If for some reason the underlining cause of the negative comments was well founded, we can suggest several mediums to issue a clarifying apology, with the aim of reaching as many people as possible – especially via the route the negative comments came from. If the comments or other data you do not want shared (e.g. personal id information) appear on a website, we would contact the webmaster to ask for their removal and then with the help of Google tools, work towards the data disappearing from the web asap (cached copies).
Site Map Creation
For new websites in particular, site maps are essential – both for human beings and for search engine spiders – although they are sometimes overlooked by webmasters. We will generate an XML Site Map of your website, upload it to the site and – via the Webmaster Tools that we speak of below – we will submit it to Google.
We’ll also include, via html code, a visual sitemap on the website itself showing the structure of your site, the individual pages, the links between them etc.
Why should I have a site map?
Because it helps the search engines find all your web pages!
Basically a site map acts like a directory, helping Google find all the pages of your website and it
encourages Google to crawl and then index your entire site, quicker than it would without a site
map. Google can literally take months to crawl a new site and then not necessarily crawl the
entire site – site maps help as part of
rapid indexing techniques to speed up this process. Of course
this also helps when new pages are added.
Helping your website visitors convert into customers
For your website visitors it’s a quick visualisation of everything on your website, helping them
to find content, products, services which they may not even have realised existed on the site
and encouraging them to link to them.
Useful Links
An on-site site map provides great navigational links round your site, especially if used in
conjunction with good anchor text.
Website Analytics and Page Rank check
Currently we issue a report quarterly on the performance of your website.
Ranking
We will have agreed with you, at the start of the website design, which are the important keywords
that you need to rank high for, in the search engines. Every 3 months we will advise you of your
website’s ranking in Google, Bing and Yahoo! for those particular keywords.
Page Rank Check
We’ll also advise you of the page rank of your individual pages – an excellent indication of how important Google sees your page as being. This helps us also make decisions regarding ongoing SEO and in particular which pages we may want to try harder to optimise for and which ones we should direct quality back-links too.
Google’s Webmaster Tools
For a number of reasons, we will have already verified your website with Google Webmaster tools and we will use them to check various aspects of your site quarterly. For example:
- What search queries are working well for you
- Info on external links to your domain
- Keyword significance – are we focusing on the right words, have we inadvertently used some others too much?
- Crawling stats
- Google Plus 1 metrics
We do have other methods are analysing some of the above and we do so to measure accuracy and consistency. It’s likely you’ll be offered further info and it’s for sure that we’ll use every piece of info we gather from different sources to determine how we progress with your SEO service during the next quarter and beyond.
Google Analytics
Currently we are also adding our existing clients to Google Analytics. However the website
design work and SEO service we provide to our clients comes first; hence we are not rushing
or giving priority to this task as the reporting and analytical services we currently supply
are excellent value for money and basically “do what they say on the tin”!
